Facebook recently updated their photo viewer, so when you click on a photo in the news feed or in an album, it pops up an in-page “lightbox” viewer with a black background. Many people like this change, but many hate it. If you are in the latter group, here is how to disable it.
The “Better Facebook” browser extension was just updated to version 5.3, and it now has a specific option to disable this lightbox view.

Better Facebook itself has many features that enhance the Facebook user interface and make it much easier and more convenient to use. It really makes your Facebook experience much more streamlined and less chaotic. So be sure to check out all of its great features.

If you don’t want to enjoy all the features of Better Facebook, and you only want to get rid of the lightbox viewer, then there are two other options.
I’ve stripped the code out of Better Facebook that disables the lightbox and packaged it up into a stand-along Chrome extension, as well as a stand-along Greasemonkey script. They are available here:
